Colin Drummond (HF 1975-77) OBE DL found the transformative effect of his fellowship at Harvard Business School invaluable, not least in his 20 years as a bin man. Born in Belfast, he read Classics at Oxford and then worked at the Bank of England in the early days of monetary policy. After Harvard he worked for the Boston Consulting Group for six years before moving into corporate life as a Director of Renold plc (producer of chains and worm gears) and then Chief Executive of Coats Viyella yarns. Joining the board of Pennon Group plc in 1992 he created Viridor, the £4bn recycling and renewable energy company which he ran up until his retirement in 2014. Since then he has been chair of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and has recently retired as Pro Chancellor and Chair of the University of Plymouth. He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators for 2007/08 and again in 2022/23 and is President of Wadham College 1610 Committee which raises funds for the College's access to excellence programme.
