In a world of so much need, Dr Douglas Noble, (HF 2012-13) will review how an issue becomes top priority for action.  Douglas is Associate Director, Health Emergencies Preparedness and Response at UNICEF.  In an interview on-line, Douglas will outline how action is co-ordinated, and how success is measured, taking the current mpox outbreak as a case study.

UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. Across more than 190 countries and territories, they do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.

As the global lead for public health emergencies in UNICEF Douglas is driven by a desire to ensure that girls and boys, families and communities are prepared and protected during public health emergencies. He first joined UNICEF in 2013 as the Regional Health Adviser for South Asia based in Kathmandu, Nepal.  He later worked in UNICEF China as the Deputy Representative from 2017 – 2023.

Dr Noble has previously worked in the UK National Health Service, Department of Health and Health Protection Agency, with the World Health Organization. He has an honorary academic affiliation with the University of Oxford.
