In a turbulent world for higher education and research we invite you to an evening to meet with other Harkness Fellows. Building on the Barcelona model there will be a short presentation to stimulate discussion. Our speaker is former Harkness fellow Professor David Armitage from Harvard University, and he will share his experiences at Harvard in the last year. Drinks and a light buffet will be served.
All Fellows have benefitted from higher education in their youth, and many have gone on to have illustrious careers within the Higher Education and Research sectors. This topic will be of interest to all Fellows, as will re-connecting with Fellows from your own and other years,
David Armitage (HF1988-90) is the Lloyd C Blankfein Professor of History, Chair of the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies and former Chair of the Department of History at Harvard University where he teaches intellectual history and international history. Within Harvard he holds positions in the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, the Department of Government, Harvard Law School and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. He has affiliations with St Catherine’s College Cambridge, Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Sydney. Before joining Harvard in 2004 David taught for 11 years at Columbia University. He undertook his fellowship at Princeton.
He is the author or editor of nineteen books, many translated into multiple languages, with the Longman/History Book of Today and the Times Literary Supplement Book of the Year awards to his name.
